Foot Pain and Injury Assessment

This type of appointment is appropriate for those suffering from heel pain, plantar fasciitis, forefoot pain, ankle pain, arch pain, neuroma, bunions, tendonitis and flat feet – essentially anything that is wrong inside the foot.

Pain or injury in the foot (feeling like there is something wrong inside the foot as opposed to a skin or nail problem) is often caused by the way we move.

We will ask you lots of questions about the history of the problem like the duration and the type of pain, and which movement makes it feet worse. We will then assess the actual injury or area of pain to arrive at a diagnosis.

We consult with you to build an appropiate treatment plan, which may recommend footwear, activity or lifestyle changes, some rehabilitation work or additional therapy such as Laser.

Sometimes further analysis of your function and movement (biomechanics assessment) is required to discover what the underlying causes are.

What happens in a Biomechanics Assessment?

Most injuries arise as a result of a gradual overloading through the way we move. In order to make a full recovery and prevent recurrence it is important to unpick the underlying causes and retrain movements.

We assess the functionality of your lower limbs, both non-weightbearing, and weightbearing. Then we assess the dynamic function – i.e. while in movement. This helps us to arrive at a conclusion about the likely mechanical causes of this injury so that we can build a plan to heal the tissues and prevent it from recurring.

What does a typical treatment plan include?

Every one of our patients receives a report of our findings and recommendations for a treatment plan, together with next steps arrangements.

There are very likely to be short-term changes required to your usual activity level in order to facilitate healing. Combined with a rehabiliation program to build strength and condition, you may also need functional insoles to address weightbearing patterns, and you may need to make footwear changes.Additionally, we have Laser therapy available, which is a very helpful adjunct to speed up your healing process.

We work collaboratively with you in identifying areas that you can easily make changes for the greatest effect.

Sometimes we need further information and will ask to refer you for imaging. We have referral partnerships for MRI and Ultrasound scanning, also with a local osteopath, chiropractor, and physiotherapist for help outside of our scope of practice.
